General description:

The University of Naples (UNINA) Federico II is one of the largest universities in Italy. It is organized in 26 Departments and offers courses in essentially all academic disciplines, leading to n. 155 Degree Programmes. Current student enrolments number nearly 97,000 and 3,121 academic staff are currently employed.

The department of Social Sciences is part of the School in Social Sciences offering courses for undergraduates as well as master’s degrees in public policies and in Public, Corporate and Social Communication. The department offers also a Phd program in Public Policies and Statistics for Social Sciences. SSH Researchers developed international exchange and cooperation with other academic organizations committed in the field of sustainability and innovation (ie. Goteborg Research Institute - Sweden, Sustainable Consumption Institute at The University of Manchester - UK). The Department of Social Sciences hosted in 2013 the National Conference of Environmental Sociologist with the participation of leading scholars working on sustainable energy transition. Most recently, in 2018, this Department was involved in the World Environmental Education Conference network as a local organizer of the word conference.

Role in the project:

The University of Naples Federico II will provide the technical infrastructure to host MOOCs as well as training expertise in MOOC delivering. UNINA will also contribute to training and consulting on the learning design of the MOOC/training development, offering support in learning analytics technologies and users satisfaction surveys. UNINA also has good experience in summer school organization with a successful summer school (100 participants) organization with the collaboration of JTEL-EATEL while the Department of Social Sciences can offer expertise in empirical research and in disciplines such as Sociology of the territory and of the Environment as well as Anthropology. SSH disciplines are in fact strongly related to the focus of the ASSET project offering the ability to bridge research to education. The Department of Industrial Engineering is involved in the education side of the ASSET project. It will offer an educational program in the field of energy transition and, moreover, it will be the trait union with industrial partners and stakeholders in Italy, accordingly with the ASSET goals.
